Cannon Fodder Update!

Hello my friends! You may have noticed there was no Cannon Fodder last week. What the hell happened, you may have asked yourselves? They didn’t even give us a heads up! Is Fodder dead? Is it happening this week instead?! Who’s the president? Ronald Reagan? The actor?!?!

After much discussion, we’ve decided to pull back on the monthly #fodjuice and retool it a bit. We’ve heard your pleas to return to the weekly format and we know people miss those instant reactions to and discussions of episodes as well as juicy GM discussions about specific things happening in our games. Sadly, with all the other content we’re putting out, returning to the weekly format is just not possible at the moment. At the same time, we’ve noticed the law of diminishing returns rearing its ugly head with the monthly live Twitch Fodders as we try to cover too much content, too long after the episodes air and then releasing them on audio after the fact.

Cannon Fodder, unlike so many beloved Glass Cannon characters, is not dead. It will make it’s triumphant return soon, but we want to do justice to the original format without compromising the rest of our story-based content. So sit tight, take this time to catch up on everything else we’re making and we’ll see you again soon with an all new Cannon Fodder experience that will remind you of the good old days when Della was just chilling in a tree and Kessen Plumb still went on Oathday afternoon strolls.

I liked both weekly and monthly fods, the weekly fod being my favourite… but since the empire has grown I understand it taking a backseat…. I wonder if Troy and Joe have forgotten a bit that the original fod was quite a bit tighter and more brief than the show it developed into….I’d love to have a weekly 20 minute Troy and Joe fod rather than none at all…. and then occasionally when time permits a longer juicier episode with a guest or extra listener mail….

For me, I feel a little bummed but it’s ok. I personally worry a bit that the glass cannon is stretching itself a bit thin with all the campaigns going and starting up. There was character growth and group dynamics in just about every episode before. The group went up and beyond for the story and it makes sense that it just isn’t quite the same anymore when they have to juggle that with four other characters they each play continually. Cannon Fodder served a good addition to that as it made them look at the details of the adventure… Read more »

I actually prefer the monthly Cannon Fodder. The Fod Juice is much sweeter when it has a chance to age. There is more to discuss after a month and it also allows for better scheduling and planning.

Everything you guys make is gold. If you weren’t feeling it was meeting your standards, it’s all good. Keep doing what you are doing.

Also the openings to your show is always gold so if you ever decide to just all do a podcast together where you talk about whatever, I’d be down to listen. You guys are amazing!

This reminds me of Troy’s recent swipe at Joe – “I notice that your turns take a long time, but nothing really happens.”

So Troy – I notice that you used a lot of words, but you didn’t really say anything.

Just givin’ you a hard time – we know you’re overbooked, just do your best! You could even take a page from Mark Rosewater’s Drive to Work podcast, and just record a solo Fod-lite during your commute. You could call it Troy’s Story, or The Joe Zone.

I am one of the people that preferred the Fodd referring to recent action. maybe the solution is a separate mini-Fodd for the Patreon content, and a single, bigger one for the free to listen series. The stuff I always loved about Cannon Fodder was the recriminations about what just happened, second thoughts and second chances, as well as rules corrections and alternative GM perspectives on Troy’s choices.

They just said they can’t return to the weekly fod because of all the other content scheduled. I’m not sure the solution to that is 5 shows instead of 1…

I think a 15 minute re-cap, recorded just after the episode, or just before the next one, with next to no editing would work. Anyway, I’ll wait and see what they cook up. It’s not like I won’t whoreishly consume anything they put up.

I get that, I’m thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and care you take with your podcasts. I definitely was sad that we didn’t get a fod, but I agree with your assessments. So I’m glad you’re working on it. One thought, maybe it would maintain the quality to make smaller more frequent eps. So instead of 60+ min eps go for quick 15-30 min eps that get to the meat of the eps or questions. I trust you guys with your content so if we have to forgo fod for bit, I know it’ll be that much better when it… Read more »

That’s completely understandable. The monthly format also made it tough on Q&A. Tons of questions, most of which get posed by the viewers of the twitch. Some kind of schedule switch makes sense.

Can’t wait to see what you guys cook up.

We appreciate the update! You guys are pumping out content left and right, and I’m grateful for everything you do to take the fans’ feedback into account. We shall await the return of the Fod!
