We Are Stupid – Episode 50

Some people know all of the rules to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, but many, many more do not. Here’s a list of the things we screwed up in our never-ending search for Pathfinder perfection…

In an episode of such epic battle, with such tragic consequences, bringing up a superfluous rule violation feels a tad pathetic. But when you are stupid, you must be notified.

Here’s a quick one: Ewigga, who was wild shaped as an eagle and in melee combat with the ultramarine chaser, fled the fight after Gormlaith was dropped. Troy, controlling our new druid ally, attempted to do a full withdraw, so as to avoid the attack of opportunity, then wild shaped back into Helen Mirren form. The problem here is that you cannot both full withdraw and wild shape in the same round. The would be too easy. You have to spend an action to wild shape (standard action unless you have the Quick Wild Shape feat) and that would defeat the purpose of the full withdraw.

So the new result is either Ewigga has to take another round to wild shape back, or she has to provoke the deadly grappling attack of the chaser which apparently doesn’t miss anything with an AC lower than 25. I think she’d have chosen the former.

Either way, who the hell cares about EWIGGA, that useless old wench. Where was she when Ben Vereen fell? Where was SHE when our enemies closed in around us!? Where was she when Gormlaith was unconscious in the chaser’s deadly grip!!?? Where was…

Sorry…I…

…I have to go now…

You guys are killing me! Or Troy is killing you, in this case. EP 49 is where the seeds of EP50’s tragedy were planted. Twice the dragonfly grappled Barron on a free attempt from bite and then tried to move him and drop him IN THE SAME TURN! He then does this again to Ben Vereen. Troy handwaves this as a “crazy feat” that allows this. But even with the Flyby Attack feat, relocating Barron is a NEW standard action and not a continuation of the original movement. So the Dragonfly could swoop-bite-swoop but not swoop-bite-grab-move&relocate-opponent-drop. RAW is very clear… Read more »
